Playing football, boy scouts, martial arts and going to church played the biggest parts in helping me see value in my life. Being around people that cared and constantly told me I can be whatever I want to be was crucial. All these activities gave me structure, discipline and an outlet for my anger that I was missing. When I gave out my first autograph and was in the newspapers for martial arts, I realized I was becoming a role model. I decided to change forever. My image started to mean a lot more to me and my life now had more purpose.

Quick Bio
Before entering foster care at age 11, Darryl suffered atrocious physical and emotional abuse as a child from his mother. His mother was sent to prison for 99 years for the murder of one of his sisters and the unthinkable abuse that he withheld ranging from age 4 to 11. Darryl has seen many homes, talked to many therapists, and was on track to go to prison at one point in his life. He never knew his dad until he was contacted over Facebook by his aunt Crystal from his dad’s side of the family. He has now met his dad and most of his other brothers and sisters in 2013. Over the past few years, Darryl has been building a relationship with his mother again.
His past reflects a life of humiliation, torment, aggression, and emotional neglect. Despite his history, Darryl was always determined from a young age to be successful. He was approached through the years by many to be a role model for foster kids or any kid or adult that has had the same experience. Darryl has been successful in many activities and organizations, including becoming a 2x hall of fame inducted martial artist. Darryl’s mission has been to help foster kids become their best by being an example with his own life first despite all of the continued success. He shows that he is nothing special with his success. “If I can do it, so can others.” “Foster kids are not a lost cause; they are just kids that need to be motivated and inspired in the right direction.”
